India is a
land blessed with many beautiful places of which some can be compared with the Heaven
itself. One such heavenly place is Kerala located on the south-west coast, on
the shores of Arabian sea. The first picture that strikes our mind at the very
thought of Kerala is the lush green-blue landscape, formed by the thick cover
of coconut trees, fresh green plantations and lovely backwaters with the mystic
house boats. Kerala also reminds us of a large folk of active and energetic
men.
This is just not enough to think about
but there is something more to be explored. The best way to experience Kerala is by travelling through
the backwaters. The backwaters are a chain of
brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian sea. Kerala is
the home for many backwater places among which the most famous one turns out to
be Alleppey(or Allappuzha). The town of Alleppey is one of the oldest and well
planned towns that stands as the headquarters of Allappuzha district.
The backwaters of Alleppey are broad
channels, which have the capacity to accommodate nearly two thousand boats at a
time without creating a jam. The major tourist attraction here is the house
boats, which are amazingly similar to a normal house and have all the
facilities required for a comfortable stay. An interesting thing which one can
notice here is that each boat starts at a unique point and has different routes
to travel but nowhere can one see a collision or jam. What a perfect sketching
of the route!
The most wonderful part of our visit
to Alleppey began when the boat started. As the boat starts, a cool breeze
touches you giving new energy. The sleeping soul awakes and the mind gets
preoccupied with a number of pleasant things, thanks to the tranquility of
nature. The boat goes slowly and steadily in between the two strips of green
land, when one would regret that the God gave us only two eyes. The tall palm
trees, Pandanus shrubs, various bushes growing along provide a green hue to the
surrounding landscape and with a wink of the eye we may miss some part of the
unforgettable beauty. Though the trees look alike one may observe at least a
slight difference in their composition, accept that God is a good craftsman
with great levels of patience.
This great scenic beauty cannot be
viewed merely with the external eyes but it needs that attention of our
internal eye. With all the five Indriyas energized, we we would be able to
guess the great work of the creator
behind the spellbound beauty of the place. The tall trees growing on
either bank form a canopy over the boats making us feel as if we are being
welcomed into the great land of the God.
The people living here are mostly
employed in the house-boats and their duty is to play good hosts to the
visiting guests. They lead a simple life but still happy and contented. They
are not troubled by the melancholies of life and are quite far away from the
busy and chaotic life unlike the rest of the country. So here lies peace and
happiness which are the characteristics of Heaven.
"Experiencing
creation is experiencing the creator,
experiencing the creator is staying with Him.
Staying
with Him means living in Heaven. "
Hence it is
rightly called as God's own country.
